So I took the plunge and bought a new Dell monitor, the acclaimed 1905FP, about a week ago. I had been planning on replacing my second monitor for some time but was waiting until I had a bit more money freed up. The time finally came and I went on over to Dell and found a 1905FP with 5-year warranty on sale for $328. I'll take it! Purchase was smooth, got the confirmation email showing my 1905FP acknowledge by Dell. Got the charge on credit card in and around the same time. A day later I received the shipment notice and within two days the monitor was at my door. I couldn't wait to get home and set the bad boy up.
When I got home from work I immediately dug in and started opening the box. Immediately I knew something was wrong because I saw a long, flat piece of silver and I knew from the pictures and past experience that the only piece that was silver on the 1905FP was the round base. I didn't want to admit it at the moment, but I suspected they had sent me a sucky 1907FP, their "new and improved" ultrasharp that sucks ass. I continued my expedition into the box and came the bitter realization that my suspicions were correct, I had received a 1907FP. Damn!
I frantically logged on to the Dell website and looked for a number to call, someone was going to get an earful. The first thing I found AFTER 15 MINUTES OF SEARCHING was a stupid chat help session. I logged in with some Indian fellow who repeatedly told me that I had ordered a 1907FP NOT a 1905FP. I repeatedly told him that I had an acknowldegement email from Dell stating I had purchased a 1905FP. Once I finally got him to realize the order was wrong he mentioned that I did not have a 5-year warranty either, only a 3-year. I lost it at this point and signed out. By that time I had found a number to call and dialed it up. After inputting 26 numbers via the menu(that is accurate) I finally talked to an Indian fellow. He recommended returning the monitor and re-ordering the original. I checked... low and behold the 1905FP was sold out. I asked him to explain to me how and why Dell thought they could change my order for $350 without notifying me!? He had no response and attempted to transfer me to sales which ended me back with one of his colleagues. He must not have wanted to deal with me.
His colleague, after going through the same conversation aka argument gave me the extension for sales should I be misdirected again. Thank you... I thought. However, after being misdirected again I tried to connect using the extension only to be told a 7-digit extension code was required and this guy had only given me a 5-digit code. Oh boy!
After dialing the 26 digits again to get me back to the Indian fellows I again went through the whole conversation, again through the verification of address, my phone number, and my email. This guy put me on hold for ages while he checked to get the correct extension. He wasn't even going to help me, just get an extension and it took nearly 20 minutes.
Once I had the extension I called it up and waited for nearly 15 minutes only to get ahold of a young, you guessed it, Indian lady who told me that she couldn't help me(after going through address verfication, phone number, email yadda yadda yadda). She gave me a number for online sales which I thought, yea right, this is going nowhere.
I did it, I dialed online sales only to be told that they had all gone home for the day and that I would have to call back on Monday. What a friggin drag. Nearly two hours of that shit only to be told that there was nothing to be done. You want to talk about a pissed off Wolverine, I was ready to go find Michael Dell himself and give him a friggin piece of my mind. Needless to say that I called and got a RMA number today and gave no other reason than that this monitor wasn't what I ordered and if they did not refund it I would cancel the credit card charge and lose the monitor in the mail. I didn't really say that, but wouldn't that be grand!
The moral of this story is that Dell sucks and should not be considered for any future purchases. The 1905FP and I believe 1705FP were awesome monitors but their newer monitors are crap. There is no reason to evAR buy anything from Dell again. Dell Hell, aka their customer support, is the absolute worst in the business. Don't fall vicitim like I did, don't choose Dell! (0)
