So i ordered a Core 2 Quad (final CPU upgrade for my PC) and was thinking to invest in a nice 3rd party CPU fan so that I might be able to extend the lifespan of my rig by overclocking in the future. Any suggestions for a good CPU cooler? - Intel socket 775

Har! As I was typing the CPU just arrived.  hello2

Yeah, no water cooling for me, just want a good air cooling solution. Thanks for the heads up.

Now to see if I can find it in Japan...  BangHead

I hear the xigmatek dark knight is good. I have a thermaltake big 14, its good but retarted big. I also hear that ant noctua's are good but pricey. ringus cooler is the best bang for buck for sure.

I use Zalman coolers for my CPUs, this is the one I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019.

It's BIG though, so if you don't have a fullsize tower you might run into space issues.

I also use Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound instead of the stuff that comes with the cooler.

Yeah, unfortunately I have a weird case, and it can't handle the big 15cm coolers. I have to go with something around 12cm or less. There's a couple decent ones that I can find here in Japan (one is a Zalman the other a Coolermaster), just have to bite the bullet and pick one. For some reason Arctic Cooling is hard to find here. Japan is weird like that.

Kind of between Tokyo and Osaka, in a town called Hamamatsu. I actually did find some places that sell Acrtic Cooling stuff, though that one particular cooler will not fit in my case... I ended up settling on one from a weird Austrian company called Noctua. It is not cheap, and man is it FUGLY, but it got really excellent reviews in terms of noise/cooling ratio, which is important because my case is literally in my face...

You got to admire the fugliness: http://noctua.at/inc/imageviewer.php?item=35&pnr=0
I'm also gonna pick up some fans from these guys, again good noise/airflow ratio. I'll post a review though it's gonna take me awhile before I get around to dissecting my computer.

Anyone got recommendations for a VGA cooler? I was looking at Zalman, and one from Artic Cooling. Needs to fit a Radeon 4870.

I'm guessing you get access to a lot of tech before the rest of the world gets it too?
