Onboard sound is usually good enough nowadays. That is unless you're one of those people who like to label themselves an "Audiophile." Most of which then proceed to listen to 128k mp3s and think it sounds fine. :P If you want 5.1 sound you'll probably have to go with a dedicated card, but otherwise onboard should do you fine.

Damn. 8GB ram? Will that actually be used or are you getting that much just because it's so ridiculously cheap now? Make sure to use a 64bit OS of course.

Grats on the new gear. Looks like it should rock pretty good. Gamer

Hell I use my onboard sound for my 5.1...well used to.

Now I just use my TV speakers and the old 5.1 system is doing nothing.

Pretty similar to me. I have a 5.1 setup. On my XP box I had a Soundblaster to run it. Eventually I got too annoyed with the rear speakers getting in the way so I removed them. Now on my Mac Pro I only have onboard sound so I still only have the two fronts and the center. Works out pretty well actually. 5.1 is nice if you can have it setup properly and pay it loud enough. Otherwise though it's just a pain in the ass moving speakers around all the time.

I bought a sound card.  I like EAX.  Makes a big difference in most FPS games. I notice i also don't get the sound looping i used to with onboard sound.

Just see how the games sound when you get it up and running.  I haven't had any issues with my onboard AC chipset (similar to the one on your motherboard).  What games are you looking to play?  Is there a new RvS out yet?
