Movie studio execs, we need to have a talk. We just don't understand the video game properties you're turning into movies now. First, there was The Sims, which still has us throwing up in our mouths a bit. Now, Transformers producer Tom DeSanto has picked up the rights to the City of Heroes MMORPG. There are apparently plans to turn it in to a big budget film and then into a TV series. Honestly, what are you guys doing?

Now, don't get us wrong, we'd love to see the first good superheroes vs. aliens flick since Independence Day (you didn't know Bill Pullman was a superhero?). And we can certainly understand the financial motivation. But what are you really buying with City of Heroes? Is it the name recognition? That won't help you with the mainstream moviegoers. Is the characters? Are you really dropping coin for The Statesman? We just don't get it, why call it City of Heroes? You know, you make a movie called Flying Town or Metropolis of Super-hard Punching, and you don't have to pay a dime. It can be the exact same thing, just with a different title. This, of course, comes as bad news for producers of Sims movie, as there's already a film about people speaking gibberish for 90 minutes and then dying in a room filled with their own fecal matter. It's called White Chicks.


I'm not really sure what to say here. I mean, Hollywood can rape and destroy great comics like The Punisher, Superman, Spiderman, etc... Just how bad do you think City of Heroes will actually be? I think they should just go whole-hog and get Uwe Boll to direct. Why not? It's going to suck more than Soni so they really should just roll with it and not bother trying to make it a good movie at all. How much do you want to bet that right before release, Statesman will nerf the movie and turn it into a 10 minute slip only available on YouTube?

I was not expecting to see my name in that at ALL, let alone in that context, so when I read it I almost choked on my food from laughing. :-P

Honestly though, I think it could be a cool movie as far as the story line goes, I just don't think there would be any point to making it a big budget hollywood film because not that many people know the story or the name. Certainly interesting none-the-less.

Where did you see that posted Vemp?

The first 45 minutes of the movie will involve all the heroes trying to get to level 14 to get their fucking travel powers.

And then the last hour and 15 minutes will be KrunkDog getting roflwtfpwnd by crooked cops.

And Statesman...

You know what would be fucking awesome...they work in an old time Intermission into the movie...just think about it...

we're watching our heroes in the middle of the Positron TF...when all of a sudden we see a pop-up on the big screen...LOST CONNECTION TO MAPSERVER...Then BAM...we have a built in bio break...that would be fecking schweeet.

either that or they could show a team doing missions with this guy crits during double xp weekend, and then let everybody have the bio break because everybody in the movie keeps getting game client crashes in portal corp

So are they going to have repawn points....cause i would just love to see how they pull that one off. They try to hard to impress us gamers but all they do is fail miserably. I mean do i even need to mention final fantasy...def almost shit myself when i heard they were making a movie out of it...and what happened? Some thing that made people kill babies. Good luck to them but not holding my breath anymore.  offtheair

OMG that would rock. It would confuse the hell out of anyone who hasn't played the game, but it would be a nice inside joke for those of us who have.
