Title: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: cybersoul on March 03, 2010, 09:38:31 PM So i ordered a Core 2 Quad (final CPU upgrade for my PC) and was thinking to invest in a nice 3rd party CPU fan so that I might be able to extend the lifespan of my rig by overclocking in the future. Any suggestions for a good CPU cooler? - Intel socket 775
Har! As I was typing the CPU just arrived. :hello2: Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: Ringo on March 05, 2010, 01:35:35 AM if your not gonna water cool. the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro with some MX-2 paste, is the way to go.
Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: cybersoul on March 05, 2010, 03:46:55 AM Yeah, no water cooling for me, just want a good air cooling solution. Thanks for the heads up.
Now to see if I can find it in Japan... :BangHead: Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: KaayooN on March 05, 2010, 08:19:12 AM I hear the xigmatek dark knight is good. I have a thermaltake big 14, its good but retarted big. I also hear that ant noctua's are good but pricey. ringus cooler is the best bang for buck for sure.
Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: cybersoul on March 05, 2010, 11:15:48 AM as long as its cheaper than a new MB/cpu COMBO :headbang:
Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: Soni on March 08, 2010, 04:34:40 PM I use Zalman coolers for my CPUs, this is the one I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019).
It's BIG though, so if you don't have a fullsize tower you might run into space issues. I also use Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound instead of the stuff that comes with the cooler. Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: cybersoul on March 11, 2010, 07:08:39 PM Yeah, unfortunately I have a weird case, and it can't handle the big 15cm coolers. I have to go with something around 12cm or less. There's a couple decent ones that I can find here in Japan (one is a Zalman the other a Coolermaster), just have to bite the bullet and pick one. For some reason Arctic Cooling is hard to find here. Japan is weird like that.

Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: cybersoul on March 15, 2010, 05:46:26 AM Kind of between Tokyo and Osaka, in a town called Hamamatsu. I actually did find some places that sell Acrtic Cooling stuff, though that one particular cooler will not fit in my case... I ended up settling on one from a weird Austrian company called Noctua. It is not cheap, and man is it FUGLY, but it got really excellent reviews in terms of noise/cooling ratio, which is important because my case is literally in my face...
You got to admire the fugliness: http://noctua.at/inc/imageviewer.php?item=35&pnr=0 (http://noctua.at/inc/imageviewer.php?item=35&pnr=0) I'm also gonna pick up some fans from these guys, again good noise/airflow ratio. I'll post a review though it's gonna take me awhile before I get around to dissecting my computer. Anyone got recommendations for a VGA cooler? I was looking at Zalman, and one from Artic Cooling. Needs to fit a Radeon 4870. Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: KaayooN on March 15, 2010, 07:27:37 PM Ya Noctua is top notch i just had the damn color, tan. They should just go black like everyone else.
thats cool that you live in japan... :headbang: gamings gotta suck hitting up our servers getting mega lag eh? Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: cybersoul on March 21, 2010, 10:03:21 PM Actually I probably get better ping than some peoples living in the States. Japan is wired fiber optic, yeah baby yeah!
Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: Phoenix on March 22, 2010, 12:31:55 PM I'm guessing you get access to a lot of tech before the rest of the world gets it too?
Title: Re: CPU cooler recommendations? Post by: cybersoul on March 23, 2010, 09:55:50 AM No, not really. All the computer stuff is made in Taiwan anyway :P
